George C. McGough Nature Park

Park hours are from sunrise to sunset, seven days a week.  The nature center is open 10AM - 5PM.

Also known as "The Turtle Park" for its abundant aquatic turtle population, McGough Nature Park is located at 11901 146th Street North in Largo, Florida.  Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and stroll through the shady oak hammock or through the mangroves along the intercoastal waterway.  Make sure you visit the Nature Center, which also houses live animal exhibits.  Turtle food is available for purchase in the nature center, along with other odds and ends to take with you as a memento of your visit!


Please note:  due to extensive storm damage from Hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024, the boardwalk leading to the intercoastal waterways is currently closed to the public for safety reasons.

John R. Bonner Nature Park

Quietly tucked away, John R. Bonner Nature Park is a short trip around the corner from McGough Nature Park at 14444 143rd Street North in Largo, Florida.  Open from sunrise to sunset, Bonner Park also features picnic facilities, nature trails, a playground, and covered pavilion.  Enjoy a break from the hustle and bustle with a beautiful overlook of the waterway. 

Bonner Park is part of the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail.  Keep an eye out for visiting migratory species throughout the year!

Largo Central Park Nature Preserve

Largo Central Park Nature Preserve, located at 150 Highland Avenue SE in Largo, Florida, is a 31-acre nature park virtually surrounded by water.  The park is home to hundreds of wildlife species for viewing - including hundreds of birds, otters, red foxes, American alligators, marsh rabbits, and bats.  A two-story observation tower has great views for your enjoyment.

Paved walkways wind through the park, making Largo Nature Preserve a great spot to walk, bike, or skate.
ON LEASH dogs are permitted in the park.
